Extensions
Install, update and manage extensions from Open VSX, recommended extensions for a migration, and what isn't available.
CodeMorph runs the standard Code - OSS extension host, so extensions work the way you're used to. They install from Open VSX, the open registry for Code - OSS based editors, instead of Microsoft's Visual Studio Marketplace.
Installing an extension
- Open the Extensions view with Ctrl Shift X.
- Search by name or ID, for example
dbaeumer.vscode-eslint. - Click Install.
No account is needed.
Installing from a VSIX file
If you have an extension packaged as a .vsix file:
- Open the Command Palette with Ctrl Shift P.
- Run Extensions: Install from VSIX…
- Choose the file.
Updating and disabling
Installed extensions update from Open VSX automatically. To turn that off, set:
{
"extensions.autoUpdate": false
}Right-click any installed extension to Disable it globally or for the current workspace, or to Uninstall it.
Recommended for a migration
| Extension | ID | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ESLint | dbaeumer.vscode-eslint | Lints JavaScript and TypeScript; pair with typescript-eslint after converting |
| Prettier | esbenp.prettier-vscode | Keeps converted files formatted, so diffs stay about types |
| Error Lens | usernamehw.errorlens | Shows diagnostics inline, handy for files in review |
| Pretty TypeScript Errors | yoavbls.pretty-ts-errors | Makes long compiler errors readable |
| Vitest | vitest.explorer | Run and debug Vitest tests in the editor |
| Jest | Orta.vscode-jest | Test results in the editor for Jest projects |
Each extension's author decides where it's published; these were on Open VSX at the time of writing.
What isn't available
- Microsoft-only extensions, such as the Remote Development pack and Live Share, are licensed only for Microsoft products and aren't on Open VSX.
- GitHub Copilot is not included. Morph is the built-in agent.
- Settings Sync depends on Microsoft's service. To move settings from VS Code, copy
settings.jsonandkeybindings.jsonfrom%APPDATA%\Code\Userto%APPDATA%\CodeMorph\User.
Where extensions live
Extensions install to %USERPROFILE%\.codemorph\extensions, separate from VS Code's folder, so the two editors never share or overwrite each other's extensions.
Extensions and security
Extensions run with the same permissions as in any Code - OSS editor and can read files in your workspace. Install from authors you trust, and keep folders you haven't reviewed in Restricted Mode, where many extensions are limited.
